Evelyn stirred in her sleep as another nightmare haunted her for the second night in a row. She could see his face as she did before that fateful night atop the inn in Comalado after slaying the wretched general. Taliesin's crystal-like smile graced her eyes and she could feel the warmth in her heart that she had never felt before. Then, Karkais, the wild beast, was upon him in a burning flash. Evelyn shot out of bed gasping for air, what the hell's going on? she pondered wildly. Why am I having nightmares when I've always been sleeping so peacefully?
She walked out of her room with her nightgown draped around herself. She stepped out of the front door into the damp green grass. She stared up at the sky wondrously, it's beauty put her in awe. "Taliesin," she spoke softly, "I wonder where you are."
(Meanwhile...)
The two warriors stood on top of the roof, the beast tense with anger, surrounded by dusty landscape of the city. The Sun was in the midst of sinking into the horizon giving off an orange glow to the clouds. The moon was barely visible in the sky opposite of the sunset. Dust flowed into the air as a breeze came and went.
Taliesin stood still, ready to combat with the Anubis-looking foe. His face was calm but aura he gave off was a fierce one; one that equaled Karkais'. His grip on the sword was tight but still relaxed enough for any maneuver. Taliesin let a breath out slowly and closed his eyes. He seemed to be readying himself for anything Karkais could throw at him.
They were two giants of the killing field. They had each slaughtered countless out on the many battle fields that had roamed and countless more on their assassin hunts. The only differences between the two of them were that Karkais was a monstrous beast and that Taliesin was binded by the list of targets, his assassination list; The Devil's List. The list that sent him to kill the land's worst criminals. Karkais killed only the innocent. That was the main thing in setting them apart.
Now, they each stood staring each other in the eyes. Karkais' red eyes were filled with the heat of bloodlust and hatred while Taliesin's blue eyes were coldness devoided of any emotion.
A girl walked out of and abandoned house a few buildings down. She was in tattered clothing; covered in dirt. She was one of the many lost orphans this poor, criminal, town had. Her entire life she had been abondaned and exiled to the dangerous streets, constantly attacked by hunger.
She looked at the roof, hearing the noise and clatter of the fight.
Taliesin dug his feet into the roof tightly, "I'm waiting for your attack," he said calmly. Karkais dashed at him furiously with his kamas raised up high above him. "Die!" he boomed swinging the kamas down upon Taliesin simultaneously. With lightning speed, Taliesin side-stepped the twin weapons; with a spin, he sent his sword around at Karkais' head. Karkais ducked with such speed that Taliesin didn't even expect it. Karkais sliced upwards at Taliesin, who quickly jumped back. Unfortunately, he was oblivious to how close to the edge he was and, with a slip, he plummeted over the edge.
The fall hardly did harm to him but Karkais was quick to take advantage of Taliesin's mistake. Like a spider upon a helpless fly, he pounced onto him with both kamas in hand. None of the three onlookers could see Taliesin under the dark shadow of Karkais, who now stood over him like a the nightsky; they could, however, see blood staining the street. Everyone stared, enthralled helplessly in suspense. Karkais stood up slowly, he looked to be in shock, blood was dripping down from the side of his cloak; hidden from the onlookers view. Karkais held his kamas to his sides now, revealing blood that dribbled from the blades. A wicked smile appeared across his snout now. He was the victor.
A scream came from down the street; the girl was standing out in the street with a horrific look across her face. She stared in terror at the beastly creature. His fierce body was ripped with his massive battle-hardend muscles. A fash of light shot through her neck as she opened her mouth to scream out of fear again, but something stopped her; blood spilled out from her throat. her head tilted to the side and rolled off the edge of her shoulders at the same time her body fell limp. Karkais held up his hand as the silver flash hit it; his kama now sat in his tight grip.
He began laughing tremendously, "I defeated him!" He walked over to the other side of the road and placed his hand against the wall of an old house, "he's finally defeated! I don't believe it," he said over and over to himseld, with his deep rumbling voice. Taliesin's body was now in view; his limp corpse was sprawled across the ground. His hood was empty; somehow, his head had been dispatched and disposed of without anyone noticing.
Evelyn stopped her steady gaze at the sky and froze stiff; a sudden chill came over her. "What's going on?" she said with a wavering voice; she couldn't even begin to explain the feelings she had. "What's wrong with me?" She asked herself as she suddenly became dizzy. She took a few stumbling steps forward and collapsed.
