Danny grinned at the girl he had apparently woken up. "Hi. Look, I don't really know how to explain this all that well, but my parents knew your parents, and through that association I was lead to you. I have a few questions for you, and then I'll leave you to the suits that're coming up to talk to you."
He gave her a conspiratorial wink. "Yeah, they came after me too. Anyway, my first big question is this: Have you at anytime manifested abilities that could be defined as paranormal? Paranormal being, uh...well, things like this." He pulled a pencil out of his pocket and placed it on the palm of his hand before levitating it up in the air, where it remained, spinning. "Or hearing other peoples thoughts, or going out of your own body, maybe even a little spontaneus combustion? You know, making things burst into flame?" The pencil finally came back to rest on his hand, and Danny put it back into his pocket.
"But yeah, if you can, I can practically guarantee you a better salary than you're making wherever it is that keeps you up so late."
OOC: Which is ironic, since it's almost four in the morning as I write this.

OOC: lol this is fun!
IC:
Jen stared at the impossibility in front of her, snapped wide awake. This was ludacris. It couldn't.... that just wasn't......
"Uh....?"
He said something about... lighting things on fire? How could he have..... The pencil was pulled from her sight and she came back to Earth.
Shaking her head, she grabbed him and pulled him inside her apartment, slamming the door.
"Listen, I don't know how you did what you did, but I'm scared and.... I think you can help me. I... I did light things on fire. I think. I don't know how, it just... happened...."
She suddenly recalled what had happened to her. She tried her hardest to repress the feelings that came up with the memory. "I... I think I hurt someone... he was a bad person, though. He tried to...." Jen trailed off, crossing her arms in front of herself and looking down.
"You said some people were coming. What do you mean?" She changed the subject so she didn't have to think about what she had done and what had almost been done to her.

Lyris rushed down the stairs of the appartment complex and out into the street. She ran onto the side walk across the street and sprinted one block, two blocks, three blocks, Lyris counted in her head.
Lyris' breathing came in gasps as she neared her destionation. A small cafe on the coner of the street stood out from all the rest with its vivid paint job and colorful flowers. A group of six girls came out laughing with each other, Lyris had missed it. After a long time of talking between breaks, a girl fom the store she worked at finally invited her out to a social event for girls only: breakfast.
Lyris hung her head and began to walk away. But the girl saw her and called her over. Lyris turned and hesitated, but walked over to the mass of girls. A few comments were passed as she aproched them.
Suddenly Lyris became very self consious about how she looked, she hung her head slightly and gave a nervous smile. "Hi." she said in a meek voice. The girls sent her harsh looks.
"You look like you just woke up." said one girl
"I did." Lyris muttered the smile dissapearing from her face. More looks were excanged.
Ooc: oye, kinda short............. -shurgs- oh well

Danny was suprised when he was grabbed and pulled into the apartment. As soon as the door shut behind him, he wondered if perhaps he had suprised her too much. He had heard that some people reacted poorly when they found out they were Talented.
After she was done talking, Danny raised his hands in a placating gesture. "First, calm down a little bit. It won't help anyone to get bent out of shape, since some people rely on emotions to control their abilities." He gave her a reassuring grin and moved on. "As to the guys on their way up, I imagine their from the U.S. government, here to invite you to work for their Black Ops Psi-Team, or whatever they're calling it.
"I, on the other hand, am here to invite you to join a group that is forming as we speak, a group that currently seeks to better understand the Talents people like us possess. I personally hope that at some point they'll let us help in rescue operations and the like. Anyway, we don't have a name right now, but hopefully that'll be solved soon." Danny placed a hand on his chest as he declared the goals he had just come up with. Silently, he congratulated himself on excellent on the fly thinking.
OOC: Don't worry, Ninja. I'll try to recruit Sadie quickly so we can get you in on the action.

Jen's mind was trying to make sense of all this. The other day she had just been some waitress out on her own, trying to make ends meet in a crappy little apartment, and now there were a bunch of people coming to try to get her to join them? It just didn't make sense. She had been content with her little gray flannel life, and suddenly it seemed so insane.
"Uh... well, so what's the difference? Between the two groups I mean?" she inquired, trying to get a deeper insight. "I mean, IF I decide to join one or the other... I'll have to know the details."

By the end of the conversation Lyris was standing up strait with a cold look on her face. 'What was the point of me even tring to be nice?' she thought to herself 'I knew that they wouldn't accept me.' She put her hands in her pockets and turned to the girl from her work."I'm sorry for being late and interrupting you. I'll see you at work." Lyris gave a small nod of her hear to say she was leaving a walked off.
The girl from her work frowned sadly and waved her good-bye. "Lori, you hang out with her at work?" one girl asked rudely. Lori turned around slightly insulted "Yes! she's actually a very nice person when your not looking down at her critically." she jabbed the last part at them with a harsh look. The girls exchanged glances and shrugged going on their way.
Lyris walked slowly back to her apartment building. She climbed the stairs and opened the door, she hadn't locked it. Being carful to lock the door behind her Lyris took a quick look around the room to make sure nothing was stolen. Not that she had anything of value in her room anyways. She walked into the bathroom and shut the door. She washed herself off, scrubbing under her finger nails and making herself all around presentable.
Lyris came out of the bathroom much later feeling refreshed but still very tired. She checked the clock before leaving her room again, locking the door behind her. Time for work, she wasn't going to be late today. Maybe tomarrow.

"The difference?" Danny's mind raced. "Well, like I said, we're more into researching our abilities and helping people out, as opposed to the government project, which is about using Talents as weapons."
"You see, the people who run our little project are scientists that aren't only funded by the government, but also by large corperations with an interest in Talents. That means that they can study our abilities for the pure science of it, instead of only in terms of how many people we can kill. Make no mistake about it, that's what the Government run Psi-Ops program is made for. If you don't believe it, ask your parents. The people I'm looking for are the children of ex-members of the government's group." He grinned at her, hoping she was taking this rather well.
"Yeah, I only found out over the past couple days that my goofball parents are Talented, much less former Cold-War era killing machines."
Danny steepled his hands together. "I don't know how much of a concern this is with you, but I was threatened with drafting into the military if I didn't join them willingly. Like I said, I don't know if they can do that to a girl, but they'll probably try to. Just a heads up there."
"Finally, this is totally optional. You don't have to join us, but I would recommend it. You obviously have some form of Talent, and it sounds to me like your experience wasn't all that great. I've been with these guys since my early teens, and they've given me the time to practice with my abilities, to learn how to control them so I don't hurt anybody on accident. I mean, we have an enormous parking lot set up with no one in it for the express purpose of practice." Danny didn't tell her about becoming stronger with experience. It might scare her away, and if she was scared, it would be easier for the military to harass her in with them.

"Use.... as weapons?" She thought back to the night's happenings. About hurting that man....
"I don't want to be a weapon.... wait, did you say my parents?" Jen's parents, posess strange powers? I guess that would explain why it was my father was gone so often...
"Wait, I'm getting sidetracked. So... pretty much the government won't leave me alone until I make up my mind? There's no getting away from this, then... is there?"
She paused, breathing deeply. This was all insane. It was too much. But... she understood. She knew what she had to do.
"I guess.... my only option is to join you." Jen had been looking down at the floor, and now brought her eyes up to look at the person who had altered her life so dramatically. "So what happens now?"

Lyris thought quietly to herself as she walked along the side walk to her work. A cold front from the ocean was sweeping through the town chilling every thing. She pulled her arms closer to her sides and walked faster. As she turned the corner the supermarket she worked at came into view. Lyris ran up to the door and pushed it open. The door opened with a small beep and a rush of warm air. The door closed its self behind her as she walked in to the back room to check in.
Lyris shared greetings with a few people as she put her uniform on but otherwise was lost in her own thoughts. She put things on shelves not really thinking about what she was doing or noticing that most of the things she put away were not in the right spot. A few people even stopped to tell her that the things she was putting away were on the wrong shelf. Lyris responded to them with a blank look and a quick sorry before seeking out the proper shelves.

OOC: Right...j33r? (Yay, making crap up!)
IC: "What happens now? Well, first I suggest we get out of here." Danny said with a smile. "I'm Danny, by the way." He stepped back to the door and stood in front of it for a moment. With a snap of his fingers, he turned around to face the young woman, Jen, if her file was right. "You might want to grab a jacket or something. It's a bit of a temperature change once you get out of the city. You know, less buildings and asphalt to soak up heat."
Danny thought he heard footsteps coming down the hallway. "Just a sec. I'm going to go and deal with our friends for moment." He opened the door and stepped out into the corridor, right into the path of the oncoming men. "Sorry guys, she's taken." He said with a friendly smile.
"And who are you, kid?" One of the men said, his lips curling up in a confident smirk. "Shouldn't you be at school?"
Danny rubbed his temples. The fact that he looked younger than he was had gotten him carded for various things plenty of times. "I'm Daniel Lancaster representing Dubois U. I came to recruit Jen here for our program."
"So? We're from the Federal Government. Our authority supercedes yours. This girl is needed to defend our country."
"The University has a contract with the Government. All our research is handed over to you people as soon as we complete it. In return, all our Talents are granted immunity from your conscription efforts. This girl has entered into a verbal agreement with us to come back to Dubois and become part of our team."
The cocky smirk on the man's face began to fade. "Whatever, once she hears our arguments, she's sure to be convinced. I'm sure we can sort out any legal problems later, after she's been integrated into our program." He made as if to push Danny to the side, but he found himself running into a invisible wall.
"All our Talents are immune, gentlemen, and that includes me. The lady has made her decision, and I'm not going to let you blackmail her into something she doesn't want to do. Now, if you'll just turn around and find someone else to sink your claws into, preferably someone who deserves it, we'll be on our way." Danny said, still forcing an amicable grin.
"I'm going to report you to my superiors, Lancaster. You haven't heard the last of this." The man said, his face beet red. Danny didn't know whether it was anger or embarassment. After all, he wasn't a telepath.

Jen couldn't think. Didn't have the time, or capacity to think. "Yes. Right. A coat." She walked over to her closet and pulled out a sweatjacket and pulled it on, doing the same with a pair of sneakers. "Right."
She followed Danny into the corridor, stopping behind him. "Oh. Hi. What's happening?" she asked bluntly, still not really thinking. She just functioned. "Do I need to bring anything?"

Lyris was still drownding in thought when her boss came storming down towards her looking over the rows of missplaced food. She didn't really notice it was him until he yanked the box of pop-tarts she was putting away and set it on the proper shelf.
"What is taking you so damn long?!" He yelled. He's face was very red and a small blood vain was pulsing on his temple.
She gave him a blank look before ansewering. "I...don't feel well" she said slowly. Her boss still looked angry but stopped yelling.
"Finish that up then go home. I dont want you to get my other employees sick." he said with a displeased look. Lyris started to put things on shelves again but he didnt leave. She looked at him but he just looked right back at her. She turned back to the shelves but it was just so distracting having him watch her. She closed her eyes and let har mind reach out to everything on the shelves. Up on the top of the shelves one of the cookie bags was slightly over the edge like some kid had tried to get it, and Directly over her bosses head. It was too heavy for her to push herself. She moved the air above it back and forth and made it swing down and knock the bag of cookies off the shelf. They fell and landed square on her bosses head breaking open. Lyris stifled a laugh as he stormed about curseing. She was much more awake now. Putting down the boxes of food she cleaned up the cookies and rearanged the shelves.
Ooc: I like cookies!

"Hm? Oh, not much. I was just getting acquainted with some rival recruiters." Danny said, letting the men go so they could slink away, casting glares over their shoulders.
He could see that Jen was in a bit of a daze, obviously overwhelmed by the rapid series of events that had effectively interrupted her normal, boring life. "No, you won't need anything else. It's not like you're expected to live at the University like I do. I'm sure we could work out something for you to keep your house. You could even keep your old job, though I don't really know why you'd want to." He bowed and gestured ahead of him at the elevator. "Your carriage awaits, milady."
Suddenly, Danny's cell phone went off. He flipped it open and brought it to his ear. "What's up, boss lady?"
"Danny, where are you? We've already collected a high powered Telepath and a Out Of Body expert. How many do you have with you?"
Danny's face became a bit flushed, and he tugged at the collar of his T-shirt. "Uh, one." He mumbled.
"What?"
"I have one person with me." He said, more clearly this time.
"Oh, Danny. Just one? Well, what is her skill?"
"I, um, actually don't really know. Her parent's abilities might be a good indicator, have you checked those?"
Danny mouthed an apology to Jen as expletives began to fly from the phone. When the doctor had quieted down again, Danny brought the phone back to his ear.
"Anyway, there's another person you need to check out. Swing by on the way back to the University." She rattled off an address as Danny scrambled to find a pen and paper to write it down on. By the time he had scribbled it down, the doctor had already hung up her phone.
The young man looked over at Jen. "Well, it looks like we'll have to make a short detour on the way back. Do you mind?"

"Um. No. That's okay. I'll lock up." Jen walked inside, and grabbed her keys. Coming back into the hall she closed the door and locked it. "Okay. Let's go."
Jen couldn't really speak in sentences more than a few words at a time. Just little thoughts. Just convey what was needed. Just function. God she was tired. Tired and confused. What was happening? Don't think about it. Just go with it. Just function. Follow him. Do what's nessicary. She could think about it later. Fall apart later.
