Adam Wright checked his watch. It was almost time. Gathered around him were men and women that were part of a CIA task force charged with eliminating potential threats in the Middle East. He liked his job. He liked the money. The only thing he didn't like was the waiting. Adam reached up to adjust his tie. "How's the satellite feed?" He asked, his question aimed at Kate Roonie, who sat in front of a screen that displayed an overhead view of their current target.
"Fulani just got in his car, sir. He's got other members of his entourage in the car with him. Wait. There's someone else. A kid?"
"A kid? So?" Adam asked. The question meant more than it implied though. Was the boy related to Ali bin Osama bin Ahmed Fulani? Their target was a rather progressive Muslim leader that wanted to oust the current rulers of Iran. Of course, a full scale civil war would disrupt the lucrative oil trade that America had established, and that couldn't happen. Adam personally felt sorry for the guy, but he had to follow orders if he wanted his checks to clear.
"So, he's not Arabic." Kate tossed over her shoulder.
"What is he then?"
"I don't know. He could be from anywhere in Europe. Hell, he could be American." She frowned for a moment, thinking. "Should we abort? The kid could be a hostage."
Adam grimaced. "We have our orders. The kid's just in the wrong place at the wrong time." He gave the order to go ahead. In an instant, a single attack drone launched from a nearby transport, loaded down with enough explosives to take out a tank.
"Ten seconds till impact." Kate intoned.
Adam loosened his tie and counted in his head.
"Five seconds till impact."
He took a sip of water.
"Two seconds. One second."
Adam leaned forward in his chair, his eyes glued to the screen.
"Detonation."
Adam stood up as the screen lit up with the explosion. He grinned. Another mission complete. He had turned to congratulate his team when Kate's voice pulled him back.
"Sir, you should take a look at this." Her voice was unexpectedly heavy.
Adam turned around to look at the clearing explosion. The car was still there, still moving at the same speed along the road. Around it, a dome of air seemed to flicker, then clear. Adam's eyes bulged. "What the **** is that?" He whispered.
A car enroute to Tehran, Iran.
Ali Fulani grinned as he turned from the window to look at a young man in his mid twenties. "Well, Sergei, it looks as though you were worth the price we paid your government. With your help, we shall free my country."
Sergei Ivanovich, for his part, was non-plussed.
Washington D.C.
Adam couldn't believe what he was hearing. After he had reported the goings on to his superiors, he had been brought into a special briefing on the current situation on Ali Fulani's group. Apparently, the men and women assigned to cover Mr. Fulani had each missed a check in for 24 hours, then re-appeared saying that nothing was going on. Only one had sent a message beforehand about a special purchase that Fulani had made before he had evidently been turned. "So, what's going on here?" He asked the briefing officer, who turned to gave him an irritated glance before returning to his projection.
"In the 1950's, both the American and Soviet governments funded Psi-Ops divisions, men and women dedicated to using their alleged mental abilities to further the gains of their country. We gave up after it seemed the Soviets had decided that their research was being about as fruitful as ours was. Unfortunately, we seem to have been misinformed." The officer flicked a control in his hand, and the projection changed to a picture of a group of men and women in labcoats.
"These scientists were working on creating the ideal Psi-Ops Soldier for the Soviet Union, and apparently, they did very well. Like many research projects, the Soviets gained a quick lead on us, mostly because their government didn't really care about human losses. We don't know how many people died at their hands, or how many children were born deformed or dead because of them. What we do know is that they successfully created at least one prototype soldier, said to be able to coerce people simply by suggesting an action to them. We don't know what other abilities this soldier might have, or if there are others. What we do know is that the program dissappeared after the collapse of the Union." He changed the projector again.
"What we do know is that this man, Ali bin Osama bin Ahmed Fulani, recently purchased a rather large of research material from the Russian Mafia. People, we don't know what he bought, but it's possible that he could have in his possession a weapon that we have no defense against."
A few weeks later, the American Psi-Ops program was re-organized, and recruiters were sent out to find new talents to bring to their country's aid.
OOC: Okay, so here's what we've got. As it's almost three in the morning, I'm going to make this brief. An Iranian rebel had bought results of the Soviet Paranormal program. The American equivilent has been brought back with increased funding. I'm going to add onto this later so don't post anything IC yet, though if you want to go ahead and create a character, feel free. Ugh, I'm beat.

"C'mon, Danny, just a few more minutes. You can do it!" The trainer shouted at a black haired young man. Sweat rolled down Danny's head as he concentrated. Directly above him hovered an eighteen wheeler. It was loaded with hundreds of bottles of water. He stood with his arms cast upwards as though he were lifting it with them instead of his mind.
"Okay, kid. Set it down gently. Gently, I said!" Danny grimaced as the trainer shouted at him. It was hard enough without having to listen to some unGifted fool shouting. He slowly lowered his hands in front of him, the eighteen wheel floating down in front of him. Suddenly, a drop of sweat got in his ice blue eyes, breaking his concentration. The transport fell the last remaining foot to the ground with a rather loud crash.
His task done, Danny looked around. Nearby was the ever present sign. The one that declared the building part of the Dubois University for Theoretical Sciences. The University had discovered his ability when he was in his early teens and asked him he wanted to work for them. All he had to do was complete their tests, which usually involved lifting things, and they would pay him a healthy wage. As a result, Danny had been able to avoid "real" work his entire life.
"Yo, Danny!" The trainer, Randy Caverone, shouted again. Randy was one of the Students that went to the University. Danny had found out that Randy was paid in extra credit for documenting the experiments.
Danny took a deep breath and turned around. "Yeah?"
"There's some guys here looking for you! I think they're from the military!"
Danny grunted. Great. This didn't sound good.
OOC: Okay, the current plan is this: The government kept careful track of all the Gifted people in their programs. They did their best to make sure that Gifted mated with Gifted, and they often succeeded, as in Danny's case. Of course he doesn't know that his parents used to be secret operatives for the government.
Anyway, the government is going to use Danny to round up other Gifted people on their radar. Who better to track down people with powers than another person with abilities of his own?

OOC: Very cool. When can people join?

OOC: Whenever, I suppose. Feel free to go crazy with the powers.
By go crazy I mean choose anything from the spectrum of Psionic abilities. I would ask that you either have a definition or a link to something like one if the power isn't commonly known.
The only real limit that I'd ask is that everyone come in with only one ability, the reason being that the "bad guys" have multiple powers, which aren't as strong as our characters would be.
So yeah, if you want to join than go ahead and do a little intro, a character sheet if you feel the need, obviously they aren't required, though. Anyway, do a little intro and Danny'll pop in at some inconvenient moment to inform said character of their abilities if the characters are unaware, and/or invite them to come and work with him.

OOC: kewl. You MIGHT recognize my character from an old MxO thread....
IC:
Jen sighed, laying on her bed with her head hanging off the side, auburn hair flowing down to touch the floor of the studio apartment. Lazily, she played with a pink rubber ball, rolling it between her palms. At any rate, she would have looked lazy to someone in the apartment if she were not alone. Truth be told, she was deep in thought. A few minutes ago, something wholly impossible had become possible. Somehow. She had defied the primal logic that man had discerned in the stone age, huddling over a small flame for warmth and protection. Somehow. She had... held fire in her hand. She had held a blue flame in the palm of her hand, and was not burned. She hadn't touched anything hot, she hadn't done anything.
It could not have happened, and yet it had. She had at first thought it had been her imagination, a trick of the light. But the more she thought about it, the clearer the memory became. She COULDN'T have imagined it, unless she was crazy...
But she wasn't crazy. She HAD seen it. It HAD happened. She just didn't know how, or why. She dropped the rubber ball onto the floor behind her and let it bounce away, staring at her hands. What had she done? How did she do it?
I.... have to go to work. she thought, trying to push the incident from her mind for the time being. Sitting up, she got off the bed and walked to her bathroom. She brushed her hair and teeth, tied her hair up in a scrunchie and headed out the door as the clock read 2:45.
Waiting down at the bus stop, her mind tried to drift back to the incident that morning. She prompltly pushed it away and got on the bus.
"Hey Jen!" She walked in the door of Dulin's Cafe and was greeted by a waitress, a friend of hers. "What's up?"
"I'm losing my mind." The other girl laughed and Jen went into the back room to get her apron and nametag. "That's it, I'm going nuts."
"Well, lose it on your break." Her friend nudged her, pointing to a table. "I think those people are ready to order."
"Yeah... sure."

OOC: whoa this looks really good! I think I might join!.
IC: "Do you know whats wrong with it?" Lyris asked. "No, thats why I asked you to look at it" Matthew replied. Lyris looked over the computer. Although is was new it had stopped working a few days ago. She touched the computer and closed her eyes. As she did she reached out to everything around her. She felt inside the computer, moving around inside of it, almost like she could see inside. Quickly she found the problem, two wires had not been properly put in and had fallen out. Moving her had across the computer case she pulled the wires back into place. The computer turned on with a small noise and started up. Matthew sat down in frount of the computer "You are a miracle worker, you know that right?" He said smiling. Lyris smiled back "You tell me that every time I come here." She said. Lyris was thin with dark brown hair and grey eyes. She had a hard, serious face and only smiled for Matthew, her best friend sense forever. Matthew was tall and had muscular arms. His dark thick hair layed across his head and would never be tamed. He typed somethings into the computer and cheered. Rapidly he began to type, as he did so Lyris closed her eyes and reached out with her mind. She felt over the things in the room, closing her eyes tighter she slowly turned the sink in the room next to them on and let the water fall. She pulled at the water and twisted its shape making it look like a lizard. Carefuly she let all her attention pass on to the lizard. It jumped out of the sink and pushed the handle until the water turned off. It crawled up the wall, ever so carefully as if it might fall on a seconds notice. It slinked through the door frame and into the room where Lyris and Matthew were. It climbed down the wall and walked across the floor leaving little puddles as it went. Lyris was losing it. Concentrating harder lyris forced the water to roll back into the lizard as it made it's way across the floor. "Lyris. Lyris!" Matthew said looking at her. Lyris snapped her eyes open and the lizard fell into a large puddle on the floor. "Oh sorry." He said standing up. Reaching for a towel he said " I didnt see what you were doing just that it seemed hard." He mopped up the puddle and tossed the towel into the sink. Lyris said nothing, simply reviewing what had just happened. Matthew looked at her. "Have your powers changed again?" he asked quietly. "No." Lyris said " They haven't changed for quite a while. I think they finally stopped moving all over the place." Matthew looked at her with a smile. "So can you like read my mind?" He asked Lyris smiled "No, all I can do is move stuff." "Like what?" "Like......" Lyris picked up a book. "Like this." She said "Could you like tear it to shreds with your mind?" He asked with a grin "Well I suppose but, why?" She asked giving him a funny look. "No reason." He said "I just saw somthing on the news about your kinda stuff and I just wanted to know." Lyris put the book back down and said nothing, clearly in deep thought.

OOC: What, I'm a Willow? Man. That's like, my least favorite tree...
IC:Danny followed Randy into one of the many classrooms in the university. When they got there, he saw that the room was filled with a whole assortment of military personnel, gathered behind one man with a whole bunch of medals on his chest.
"General Jacobs? This is Daniel Lancaster, the man you wanted to see." As Randy introduced him, Danny studied the General. He was a rather powerfully built man, looking to be in his late fifties. Sea green eyes peered out from under thick white eyebrows. His lips were in what seemed to be an almost perpetual grimace, which suited his long, angular face. The general was wearing a normal dress uniform and hat, all of which was spotless. The general opened his mouth.
"Mr. Lancaster, it's good to finally meet someone as powerfully Gifted as yourself. Have you met any others?"
Danny shrugged. "No, I haven't. Why?"
"Because, son, we're looking for people that are talented, people who are willing to serve their country."
"You want to recruit me? What for? Doesn't the military already have a team?" Danny was leery of joining anything controlled by the government, especially the military. He had no wish to use his gifts to kill people, and that was certainly what the military would want him to do with them.
"Yes, but our current team is a joke. Our Telekinetic can barely lift a couple barrels. You however, seem to be much more capable" The general smiled.
It was Danny's turn to grimace. So, they had seen him lifting the truck, had they? "What if I don't want to join up?"
General Jacobs' smile disappeared. "Well then, we could always draft you. I'm sure you've already filled out your Selective Service form, haven't you?"
"Yes, I have." Danny couldn't figure out why they hadn't drafted him already, but they had him. He had begun to open his mouth when a door slammed off to the left. Everyone in the room turned to look at the woman in a white lab coat that was doing her best to stomp down the aisles wearing shoes that were plainly not meant for stomping.
"General Jacobs, don't you dare try to bully this young man." She said, her voice full of scorn and anger. She turned to Danny. "You don't have to go with him, Danny. We already have a contract with the government that keeps them from drafting you. The only way they can have you is if you let them."
Danny blinked, surprised. Before he could even think of something to say, the General was beginning to speak.
"Mr. Lancaster, this is a matter of national security! There are terrorists using Gifted people out there as weapons! How are we supposed to defend ourselves if our team can't even find them, let alone survive in a fight with them?"
The woman jumped right in. "You could hire Danny out on a contract. He could maintain control, and he could decide how he wants to do things. We could assemble our own team of Gifted people. How does that sound, Danny?"
"Well, I-"
"Refuse an order? How can we get anything done if a soldier doesn't obey a direct command from a superior officer?" The General exploded.
"I'm not a soldier, General, and I have no wish to be. Doctor Lee is right. I'll only play ball on my terms." Danny said. In truth, the whole thing was moving too fast for his taste, but the fact that the General wasn't even letting him talk had gotten to him.
The general sputtered, his face a dark red. He took a deep breath and got a hold of himself. "I'll have my people call your people." He said to Doctor Lee, as though Danny wasn't even there, and marched out of the room, followed by his subordinates.
Doctor Sarah Lee put her full attention on Danny. "We need to start locating other Gifted people. I'm pretty sure that the Military is going to go over our heads to create it's super team, so we need to get the strongest people with us."
Danny shook his head in disbelief. "Why are you doing this?"
"So I can get my hands on some research data from some really powerful Psychics, of course! You guys aren't that common, you know. And the added funding." The last part came out in a rush of words. Danny had heard that the University was having some funding issues, but he still didn't like the idea of her just in it for the money. Wasn't he though?
"Maybe your parents know something. Is there any history of Psionic ability in your family?" Doctor Lee asked.
"Don't you know? You've been studying me for long enough, shouldn't you have asked them before?"
"Oh, I did, but I thought that they were hiding something from me. They said that neither of them had ever heard of such abilities in your family."
"Well, why don't you call them? I'm going to go and get changed out of these sweats and into some normal clothes." Danny turned to head for the locker rooms. "Why don't you tell them the army was here looking for me? That should jog their memories." He walked out of the room.
Half an hour later, Danny stepped out of the locker room, fully clothed. He was wearing a navy blue T-shirt under a black hoody, with normal jeans and tan sneakers. His dark hair was still wet from his shower. He was surprised to see Doctor Lee in front of him, tapping her foot. She brushed a long strand of black hair out of her face and handed him a list of addresses. "Did you know your parents were part of a secret government agency?" She asked, irritated.
"What?" Was the only thing Danny could think to say. His parents? He thought of the goofy pair of people that had raised him. His mom, who had an overpowering fear of cats, and his dad, the aqua-phobic ventriloquist. In the military? "No way! What's this then?" He held up the list.
"Those are the addresses of the other people from your parent's unit. I would assume that they would also have had children, each who could possibly be as powerful as you. What are you waiting for, get going!"
Danny stood for a moment, stunned. His parents? In the government? They were Gifted? He came too when Doctor Lee gave him a push towards one of the exits. "Alright, alright, I'm going." He followed the direction of the push.
"We'll have things set up in the second sub-basement when you get back, Danny!" Doctor Lee shouted to him through cupped hands. As soon as he drove off, she hurried off to start moving equipment.
OOC: God, that was ugly. So, are these people in different states, or what? I'd envisioned the University to be somewhere on the east coast, somewhere near D.C., if not in it.

OOC: Well, Jen can be pretty much anywhere. I'm pretty sure cafes and studio apartments exist in any city Oh, and a fun little fact: Dulin's is the name of the cafe where my brother's girlfriend works as a waitress ^^ IC: "Oh, gosh, I'm sorry!" Jen grabbed the rag in her apron pocket and soaked up the spilled coffee on the table in front of her. "Don't worry about it..." Red-faced, she brought the wet cloth and coffee pot back to the kitchen. "Jeez Jen, what's with you today? That's, like, the third time you've spilled today." her waitress friend, Kate, said, grabbing a plate from the pick-up window. "Oh... um, I dunno." "Sheesh, maybe you are going crazy." Jen sighed, getting a clean rag. "At least my shft's almost over. I'm just gonna go home, eat some ice cream and then sleep." Kate chuckled, "Good plan. Just try to get though the rest if the day without scalding another customer." "Ha ha." *** "Wait!" She dashed after the leaving bus, though it was absolutely hopeless. "Damn it..." she sighed, slowing to a walk. She hated missing the bus; it wasn't a good idea to walk though the city at night. "Damn it..." Sighing again, she pulled her coat tighter around herself and set off toward home. *** She was in the heart of the city, not far from her apartment. Somewhere nearby a car alarm went off, and she walked just a little faster. I could be home by now..... this day just gets worse and worse."Hey... come here." A mysterious voice came from the alley she passed. Tensing up, she just kept walking. "I said come here." she could now hear footsteps behind her, and she sped up. Her heart raced, and she relized just how terrible her day was getting. She tried to discreetly rummage through her purse to find her bottle of mace. Please help me... please...Without warning the man behind her lunged forward and grabbed her arms, making her drop her bag in surprize. She shrieked and he dragged her into the nearest alley. "Help!" she screamed, struggling in his painful grip. "Help! Let go!" The alley was dark and she could barely see where she was being pushed. Suddenly from somewhere behind her there was a bright light. Had somebody heard her screams and come to rescue her? Her attacker shrieked and pushed her away roughly and she fell to the ground. She was confused to see that the light was now in front of her... in her hands. Gaping down at her palms she saw that the light camae from two blue flames, one in each hand. No... I had to have been imagining it!She turned around to see her assailant tearing off his jacket, the sleeves in flames. "What the hell!?" he exclaimed, sprinting away. She barely noticed however, as her attention was focused back on her hands. She could barely believe this. Where had it come from, and why did it not hurt her? How... do I make it go away? it seemed that the moment she thought about making it go away, the flames were snuffed by some invisible force. Shaken, she stood and numbly walked back home. She didn't want to think about what had happened. She didn't want to think about what she'd done. She put on her pajamas, climbed into bed and fell asleep. No thinking about it. Not tonight.

Lyris sat at a picnic table out side with Matthew. She looked slightly irritated as she ate her sandwich. "For the last time." She said through a mouthful "I don't know."
Matthew sat across from her also eating a sandwich and holding a deck of cards. "Sure you do. what is is?" He asked looking at a card.
Lyris rolled her eyes and reached out to the card with her mind. In her mind she could see them and the table just like she woudl have if she was looking with her eyes but it was in the form of white light, not color. She could see the sound from matthews speech but could not tell what he was saying by just looking at them. To her the card was blank, she could see the tear in the card and the place where she bend it, but all the patterens on the card were missing. She pulled the card toward her with her mind and Matthew gave out a shout of protest. Opening her eyes Lyris looked at the card. "Four of hearts." She said smiling Matthew plucked the card from her mental grasp. "Thats cheating." He said shuffling the card back into the deck. "Not really." Lyris said taking another bite from her sandwich. "Use your power to find out what it is." Matthew said holding out another card. "I did! Didn't you see me?" Lyris asked "Thats not what I ment and you know it." Matthew said. Lyris snorted. "Look." She said "I don't quite think you understand how it works. I see things because my mind is reaching out and touching them, thats why I can move stuff around. I don't see colors or patterens." "I see, so you couldn't like, read a book or anything with your mind right?" Matthew asked putting down the cards. "Right" Lyris said finishing her sandwich.
They were silent for a little while as Matthew finished his sandwich and put away his cards. Lyris looked at the ground thinking about her ability. Matthew looked at her for a minute before speaking. " So can you like--" "Can we please get off the subject?" Lyris asked annoyed "Yes, but just one last question." Matthew said. Lyris grumbled "Okay." she said at last. "Alright, I've seen you make water move, how does that work?" He asked "How in hell should I know?" Lyris shouted "Well how do you do it?" He asked "I dont know I just twist it. I cant lift it very well so I just....move it." She said shrugging "Could you, say, crush a pop can?" Matthew asked leaning on the table. "I could use air to crush the can, but I couldn't pull the metal out of shape, it's to rigid." Lyris said standing up. Matthew stood up as well. "I see, so you could--" "I thougt yo said that was the last question." Lyris snapped. "Heh, ya sorry." Matthew said "Oh wow, look at the time. You have to get to work." Lyris shrugged "It's a short walk. I'll see you later."
She walked down the hill of the park where they had been sitting. Matthew was all ways like that; curious. She smiled as she walked out of the park and onto the sidewalk; Matthew, as annoying as he could be, was her best and only friend.
OOT: Ya so they live by the coast. >.> (although I didnt really mention it yet.) so It can be the east coast or the west coast I really don't care. Oh and tell me if you want me to explain Lyris's ability better, I have it all worked out. ^ ^

OOC: By all means, explain away.
IC: Danny got a call on his cell phone as he was driving on the interstate. "Make it quick, I'm driving." He said as soon as he had it open and held between his head and shoulder.
"Alright, here's the Reader's Digest version. You're looking for Jennifer Lind, she lives in Baltimore. You have a pencil and paper handy?"
"Always." Out of a pile of trash in the passenger's seat, a paper and pencil floated up. The paper molded itself to the dashboard and the pencil hastily scribbled down the address. "Okay, thanks." Danny said before closing the phone. He opened a window to cool off. He had never been all that good at multi-tasking.
"God, I wish I had On Star or something." Danny muttered as he trolled the many streets of Baltimore. He could have sworn he had passed the address on the paper at least three times. To the dismay of the drivers behind him, he had slown to a crawl, squinting at the addresses as he went by.
The car finally slowed to a stop in front of a large apartment complex. Danny stepped out, talking on the phone again. "I'm going as fast as I can, alright?"
"Danny, we already have two people secured. We have a telepath and a remote viewer, both quadroplegic, if you can believe it." Danny wasn't paying attention though, instead he was watching a group of very straight backed men in business suits climbing out of a black van.
"Sorry, Doc, but I gotta go." He quickened his pace, getting ahead of the men that were heading into the building in single file. It had been nice of them to get by the security system for him. Suddenly, the man in the lead tripped on something and fell, throwing the whole line into chaos. "Oops." Danny whispered as the doors on the elevators closed.
On the way up, Danny checked himself over, making sure there weren't any more food crumbs on his clothing. He had thought about tying his hair back, but since he could only get half of it back there, he had decided against it. He wanted to be seen as Danny, not the Dread Pirate Roberts. With a ding, the door slid open.
Danny counted doors as he walked along the hall. He came to a stop in front of one of them and raised his hand to give a knock.

"Bluh... mmm?" Jen awoke with a start. There was a loud noise.... banging.... the door?
"Nooo....." she moaned. Flopping down for a second, she pulled herself out of her bed and out the door. She was wearing a baggy sweatshirt, pajama pants and a pair of red socks. Her hair was a mess and her eyes were half closed. To put it simply, she was a complete mess. Not that she was concious enough to care or even notice.
Stumbling bleary-eyed to the door, she peeked through the peep hole to see who had woken her.
Who the heck...
She undid the latch and pulled the door open. "Yeah?" she asked, irritated.

Ooc: Oye. I'm just gonna butt in here...>.> hope thats not a problem.....^ ^()
Ic: Lyris sat at the table in her tiny apartment with a glass of water. She hadn't been able to sleep all night. She took a drink from her glass and continued to stare strait ahead. Her eyes were half open and baggy. She wore a white tank-top and blue pajama pants. With a small thud Lyris' head fell forward and she layed down across the table. She moaned and pulled herself back up. In a clumsy movement Lyris tried to stand up from the chair and knocked the glass of water to the ground. It shattered sending glass and water in every direction. Lyris cursed and picked up a rag from her sink. She mopped up the water and carfully swept up the glass. Throwing it away, lyris went over in her mind what her manager had said to her before she left the store where she worked.
"You come in late again and your fired." His musky voice flashed through her mind. "What the hell ever." She thought with a scowl. "Like you know anything." Lyris flung herself onto her bed and pulled a pillow over her head. "Sun.....go away..." She muttered. Suddenly she leapt out of her bed. "Oh my God! Oh my God!" She shouted throwing on clothing. SHe grabbed her bag and ran out the door shouting all the way.
Ooc: Okay so Lyris' mind can go out and feel over things, thats why she couldn't like read a book are anything. so she can move stuff but she cant like lift stuff very well, like at all. But she can like bend air and water stuff that doesn't have a riged form.
