In 2020, something amazing was discovered - not only were werewolves, vampires, and other creatures found in myth real, they still roamed the world today, existing harmoniously with normal civilians. They had remained undetected for centuries, many not even aware of one another's existence. When the news went public all over the world, it caused widespread panic for a little while. Normal humans fled and hid in paranoia, while the more old or insane vampires took to the streets and made their feeding public, as no need for secrecy existed any longer. Eventually, though, a corporation emerged to take control of the chaos - Paragon, a giant empire led by a man no one had ever heard of. Everything became controlled very quickly, and though the methods were perhaps questionable - the mythical creatures were all captured and sent to live in facilities - all humans were glad for the relief.
Two centuries later, things have settled into a pattern. The existence of these creatures is not kept secret any longer, but nor are they kept trapped in facilities. To some, though, their existence is just as bad. Paragon keeps tabs on them like they are criminals. They're required to wear dog tags at all times bearing their name and species, and are sorted into separate schools, living in separate neighborhoods and sometimes entire cities. School is taught by Paragon's entirely human faculty. Any non-humans are required to have regular physical check-ups at least once a month, no matter what. All werewolves are aware of who made them that way, all vampires know their sires. Any fighting between these two species, or any others, is severely punished on both sides. Vampires are forced to drink chemically created 'blood' to survive that far from fulfills their thirst. And if you are a vampire who has been found guilty of turning another person, you are executed. Werewolves, on the other hand, are not allowed to bear children, so that their population might be controlled, and are chained in jail-like facilities every full moon. Failure to obey these rules results in either jail time or death, depending on the judge. And once you break them, your actions become monitored constantly. In addition, those who aren't human are looked upon by those who are, in general, in one of two ways; with the sort of detached pity you give a child, or as second class citizens. In the eyes of the non-humans, neither of these is even preferable to the other - either way, they are not treated like the humans are. Rebellion has been spoken of, but most of the groups are either too afraid of repercussions to act, or simply hate each other too much to get along. Werewolves and vampires are an example of this.
In 2218, in a 'mixed-breed' city just outside Seattle, WA in the United States, our story is set.
P.S. Sorry for slightly stealing your sci-fi thunder, (yay 4 alliteration ^-^) Zoodle, but I said I'd put this up here today so I did. Besides, we can have them both going at once
