"Lots of reasons, I'll name three, for one, I havent slept in a real bed in two weeks, two, I'm very hungry, and three, I think there's a pack of wolves after me!" Grog-min yelled back.

Gwendolyn sighed.
"I am sorry, sir... Orc. I'm sure you have heard of the famed hospitality of the Elves, but we aren't allowing any outsiders into the village right now. You shouldn't even be here." She paused, then finished, "Continue on your way, and I assure you that you will reach someplace you are welcome."

Arien sidled over to the base of the ladder, staring up at Gwen, shaking her head sadly. She had so much to handle at one time... it wasn't fair. "Who is it, Gwen?" She shouted up at her friend. "What do they want?"

Matius stood up and grabbed the other Orc by the back of the neck and turned him around to face him. "I'm trying to sleep, she just left me alone so I could, and now you are yelling and it is making it hard to sleep." Matius then turned the Orc back around and then looked up and said, "Please, let me get some sleep so I can continue my trip, just tell him to find someone else to help him, if he can't handle a few wolves, he deserves to get eaten." Matius walked back over to the little place in the ground he called a bed and laided back down, trying to sleep.

Grog-min just stood there for a minute, then pulled out Ukari and walked into the forest. "OK, I'LL LET YOU SLEEP!!! I'LL JUST WALK AROUND IN CIRCLES NOT SAYING ANYTHING!!! YEP, JUST ME NOT SAYING A THING!" He yelled, walking around in the forest. "OOOOO, WHAT A PRETTY LITTLE FLOWER, I THINK I'LL PICK IT UP, YEP, HERE I GO, PICKING UP A FLOWER!!!" With that he reached down and grabbed a flower, then crushed it and threw it on the ground.

Gwen sighed as she jumped down off the wall. "Just another orc looking for a place to stay." Leaning against the wall she sat down, feeling tired. "Arien, this isn't fair. This isn't fair to the village. This isn't fair to anybody. I can feel it. Our whole way of life is about to change. Nothing will remain. It has happened before, and this time will be no different."

Arien sighed, as well, and sat down next to her friend, placing a comforting hand on her shoulder. "I know it isn't fair, Gwen," she said softly. "Life... life can be very unfair, sometimes. But what are we to do?... We can't very well sit back and watch our village crumble at our feet. We've got to try and find a way to protect ourselves." She smiled half-heartedly. "You're a warrior, aren't you? You can always shoot noisy intruders like that full of arrows. Unless... unless it's something bigger." She looked worriedly into her friend's eyes. Trying to reassure her, she added, "Then again, what if we're simply making a mountain out of a molehill? How can you be sure that the appearance of an obnoxious group of travellers and a dim-witted orc foretells the destruction of our way of life?"

Gwen was silent for a moment, seemingly lost in thought. Suddely she seemed to break; she looked extremely distraught and her hair fell into her face.
"Arien... oh, I should have told you so long ago." Gwen said quietly, looking down at her feet. "I'm so ashamed. I just didn't want you to worry. I should have told you..."

Arien's brow furrowed, and she tilted her head curiously. "Gwen," she said slowly, concern obvious in her tone of voice, "what is it that you didn't want me to worry about?..." She felt there was nothing more to say; if Gwendolyn had brought the subject up, she obviously intended to tell her about it, whatever it was. But she was rather upset... there hadn't been any secrets between the two of them for ages.

Gwen sighed. "As you know, I've been spending quite a bit of time patrolling in the forest, sometimes staying out for many hours." She paused, gathering the strength to tell her friend what she should have said long ago. "I've... placed several charms and simple spells around the village, some several miles away. They detect disturbances in the area, telling me if people are passing, or if things are happening near them. It was just to monitor travellers and the like, and that's how I would always find people that were lost. At first there was nothing out of the norm. After a while, though, they were detecting people much closer much more often." She placed a hand to her forehead. "I ignored it, thinking that it wasn't anything to worry about. I figured it would just be for a while. Maybe it was just a phase." Sighing, she continued, "I was very wrong. People began to settle near the furthest charms... and this was quite some time ago. I still didn't say anything because it was just a few small families, and it was miles away. I didn't want to alarm anyone, and I just started patrolling those areas in secret more often, just to make sure everything stayed... stayed the same."
Why have I kept this to myself for so long? she asked herself. This needed to be told!
"Well, many months passed, and it seemed like things wouldn't get out of hand... when some men found valuable ore in the area. Not the ore we mine for the village, not such good ore as that, but it was still ore. Many families of men came quickly to mine, and a small village was founded. I knew that if I told then, everyone would wonder why I did not say anything in the first place, so still I held my tongue. I was very foolish. Still I monitor that area, going to that village to learn about goings-on. That village is expanding, and it is only a matter of time before we are discovered." Gwen swallowed hard, finishing, "I am so sorry."

OOC: Just testing to see if you can post junk when it's in maintainance mode... I wouldn't want to do a big long post and then have it lost.
